Highly confined photon transport in subwavelength metallic slot waveguides.
We report experimental realization of subwavelength slot waveguides that exhibit both micrometer-range propagation and high spatial confinement of light. Attention is given to rectangular waveguides with a Si3N4 core and Ag cladding; core thicknesses of 50-100 nm and widths of 250 nm - 10 microm are explored. Propagation lengths of approximately 5lambda are achieved with light confined to later...
متن کاملNonlinear plasmonic slot waveguides.
We study nonlinear modes in a subwavelength slot waveguide created by a nonlinear dielectric slab sandwiched between two metals. We present the dispersion diagrams of the families of nonlinear guided modes and reveal that the symmetric mode undergoes the symmetry-breaking bifurcation and becomes primarily localized near one of the interfaces. We also find that the antisymmetric mode may split i...
متن کاملQuadratic phase matching in slot waveguides.
We analyze phase matching with reference to frequency doubling in nanosized quadratic waveguides encompassing form birefringence and supporting cross-polarized fundamental and second-harmonic modes. In an AlGaAs rod with an air void, we show that phase-matched second-harmonic generation could be achieved in a wide spectral range employing state-of-the-art nanotechnology.
متن کاملPolarisation independent silicon-on-insulator slot waveguides
The minimisation of birefringence, or polarisation mode dispersion, is vital for simplifying and miniaturising photonic components. In this work, we present a systematic study of the slot waveguide geometries required for having zero birefringence (ZB). We show that the rail widths required for ZB are more strongly dependent on the height of the waveguide than on the slot separation. After whic...
متن کاملGuided plasmonic modes of anisotropic slot waveguides.
We study guided optical modes of a planar plasmonic waveguide filled with a generic anisotropic medium. In particular, we show that both surface and oscillatory modes exist for such waveguides and find their numbers for two specific forms of the anisotropy tensor. We also show that lossless waveguides, characterized by a diagonal permittivity tensor, support simultaneously both the forward and ...
